Floundogg Posted May 30 Posted May 30 This is not a defamatory thing or anything, just geniuinely curious and concerned. I downloaded the new witch launcher since I was prompted to come update it. I didnt initially disable antivirus or anything because I figured it would be about the same process. When I did download it, my firewall flared up with notifications that there was a trojan virus contained in one of the files. I tried reloading the site and downloading it again and again, preparing to launch it and it kept getting deleted and isolated as a virus. Can yall explain this a bit to me? I am actually wondering what makes the mods tick and if its safe. It would be nice to hear some transparency since it gave me a little scare. I haven't retried the mod launcher since. This was the message it gave me: Detected: Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml
Administrators Antrix Posted May 31 Administrators Posted May 31 Don't worry, this is a typical antivirus trigger caused by executable file obfuscation. Let me give you a bit of "anti-panic medicine": Look at the number of detections on virustotal, that already says a lot. Only a few antiviruses triggered, and even then they gave the typical "Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml" detection. Antivirus vendors usually use names like "Wacatac" for generic/heuristic detections, meaning the file looks suspicious to their automated systems, not that they actually found some specific confirmed malware inside. We've been on the market for 10 years, and our reputation has never been in question. And trust me, we're definitely not going to take screenshots or read everything you do on your PC 😂 The previous version of the launcher was analyzed pretty thoroughly by one person who... found nothing suspicious there )) Only BE driver has some light anti-debug protection, and even that is limited to simply not launching if debuggers or other similar stuff are present. No BSODs, no screenshots, no keyloggin or anything like that, as I already said above. We don't practice that kind of vandalism or disrespect toward our users. That's it, now breathe out use the launcher safely 🙂
